Scigen was founded in 1992 by Steven Wheeler. Mr. Wheeler founded Scigen on the principles of excellence, commitment and dedication to the design, development, engineering and manufacturing of solutions for Scigen and a growing number of its clients.
Disciplined formally in Chemistry and Engineering Mr. Wheeler brings with him over 25 years of real world experience to Scigen and its clients. As a visionary, Mr. Wheeler has, and continues to deliver unique solutions for many of Scigen's diversified clients.
In 1996, Mr. Wheeler invented and patented a one of a kind solution called Neutralex®. Neutralex® was developed to properly treat the disposal of formaldehyde waste which occurs in many labs, hospitals, clothing manufactures and other such industries where formaldehyde is used. Prior to Scigen's Neutralex® product, these and many other industries would have to engage in a very expensive and risky process to dispose of used formaldehyde. With Neutralex® these clients simply have to add the Neutralex® product to their used formaldehyde and dispose of the product by simply pouring it down the sanitary sewer. (Please check with your state and local authorities)
Neutralex™ is such a revolutionary product, the CAL / EPA , and the State of California recognized Scigen's accomplishments and has awarded Scigen the distinct honor of being the only State Certified Technology for the safe treatment and disposal of formaldehyde waste. In addition, the State of California in conjunction with Scigen, created a state certification program for the treatment of formaldehyde waste. This joint certification program is used today for those companies seeking to become certified by The State of California for the safe treatment and disposal of formaldehyde waste.
In 1997, Scigen was approached by Sakura Finetek® USA Inc., a worldwide leader in the Histology market place . Sakura's goal for was for Scigen to develop a complete line of reagents for their histology instruments. Today Scigen develops and private labels most of Sakura's reagents under the Tissue-Tek® brand name. With the success of these reagents, Sakura has engaged Scigen in many other products which Scigen produces for them today.
In 2001, Scigen introduced with Sakura a new and improved fixative for the histology market that reduced the need for labs, hospitals and histology professionals to have to service and maintain their equipment. This new process resulted in better test results for histologists and helped to reduce the cost of routine maintenance.
In addition to Sakura, Scigen has provided solutions for LabCorp® of America, Kaiser Hospital Foundations®, Hoag Memorial®, Unilab® and a host of other high profile clients.
